Dr. Michael Leland had a genetic itch to follow his ancestors’ sailing voyages and check some items off his bucket list. He achieved that and much more. Joined by three friends; Dave Rearick, Mike DeBone, and Bruce Carter, they sailed 3,617 nautical miles across the Atlantic in summer of 2017 in a 33 foot boat, named Hope. They left from Jamestown, Rhode Island and sailed to Henan, Sweden via the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea with landfalls in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Ireland, Scotland and Norway. Their journey began in June and ended in September.
Come hear the adventurers tell their amazing story about the majestic seas, her changing moods, the marine life, the beautiful skies, the friends they made and how their lives were transformed.
